65. The Trip to the Moon

I was going to the moon that AFTERNOON
Gotta get my tickets, Gotta get it booked
I saw a CROOKED line, BLOOMING like a lane
In front of me, people stamping their HOOVES demanding a repay

Air host flashed a TOOTHY smile and said, SMOOTH it out.
The angry crowd BLEW at them
and said, were not
going anywhere till we get our money back.

Well said the air hostess
I gonna have to let you LOOSE,
But first has anyone seen this JEWEL?
A little girl UNDERSTOOD the MOOD of all around, sitting on a porch

With her little POOCH, who gave a little hoot and fell on the girl’s FOOT
I saw a tool on the FLOOR so COOL my little
Pup running, chasing all around it,
Until I realized it was FOOD

My dog took it up and CHEWED greedily as she could,
I heard a painful sound, the plane was booked.

64. Amelia Bedelia

Amelia Bedelia
Book Report

      By Harini
Grade III

The title of my diorama project is "Amelia Bedelia, Shapes Up" authored by Herman Parish and illustrated by Lynne Avril. Genre: Humorous fiction.

The setting of the story in the first chapter, which I choose for diorama 3 - dimensional project is the math classroom because it explains the math fraction problems in a humorous way.

The main characters are
1.      Amelia Bedelia a funny girl, who takes the instructions literally. She makes hilarious explorations of homonyms and idioms.
2.      The math teacher Mrs. Robbins

The plot of the particular scene that I choose for the diorama, in the story is when Mrs. Robbins explains fractions, to the students.

[Mrs. Robbins at the beginning of math class]

Mrs. Robbins: "What if I gave you a pie-"
Amelia Bedelia: "Thank you." “I love pie".
Mrs. Robbins: I'm not really giving you a pie. Just pretend. If I want to give eight slices to eight people, what fractions of pie would each get?
Amelia Bedelia: “I’ve never tasted fraction pie. Is it good?

(The whole class laughed)

Which is a funny humorous fiction kind plot, that the author creates a problem through Amelia Bedelia and resolves through the teacher Mrs. Robbins, so that the readers could understand in a right context.

Finally, I would like to recommend this book to others because the author of Amelia Bedelia's book series explores various homonyms, figurative languages, idiom and phrases, so that the readers could learn much more in a humorous way. For example "It's time to hit the sack" means "It's time to go to bed"
