174. The Oregon Trail

                                                          By H A R I N I
Drop, dribble, drop that was the sound of the harsh rain we had since the last two weeks. We were all going West following the Oregon Trail. It was a long and difficult journey for me and my friends.

               They were Zenubia ,Emma,Alexa,Kaylin,Kailey,Gabby,
Jayla and Nina and many other people. One day someone decided to take a “shortcut” but it turned  out to be a “long cut”because we took a pathway that lead to one hundred more miles!

We decided to stop and rest because it was snowing 5 ft!Lots of people were dying, but none of my friends died.We had to eat the flesh of the people who have passed away.I know it sounds gross, but we had two choices survive or die,so I would go with survive. There was not a lot of people who was alive after the snowstorm.

We continued the journey when we saw a land full of grassy meadows and sunflowers blooming and the bright sun reflecting on the pond.Me and my friends ran to the field and the other people followed.

Unlucky, there was a terrible sickness going on that we did not know about and sadly, one of my friends died, Bob.And that terrible sickness was cholera. That night we all told stories by the campfire about how Bob was such a good friend. We all made necklaces out of beads and special rocks to give to our friends.

We had the wagons inspected to make sure there was no other damage during the trip to Oregon City.Unlucky,we had to stop because the axle on our wagon had broke and we found out that the inspector only checked the wheels and not the axle.

We all wrote letters to the other wagons trying to tell them that our wagon’s axle had broken down.Unfortunately, the letter carriers were out for the day.So we had to survive, all alone.

Luckily,me and the other children sewed a bright big blanket to show as help signal so the other wagons will come and help us, but it was no use,we had to learn to live in the world without any help from the other people.

Four years later we had grown a beautiful place but we need to find our group.  We were walking by a large mountain when we saw a few wagons going up the mountain.I knew they were our friends so we went over to them and we traveled together for a long distance until we came to Oregon City!

We stopped the wagon and unpacked our stuff and began to start a home the dangerous wilderness.  It took us a while to get settled it but it was much  better than being on the road.
